Wow, over and done with in 3 hours...

First, this book is loosely (and I mean loosely) based on his ex-girlfriend, former equestrian Lisa Druck (now Reille Hunter). If some of you don't know, Reille Hunter, an actress, was the mistress to John Edwards and fathered his "love child". Druck's horse "Henry the Hawk" was killed (electrocuted) by Tommy "The Sandman" Burns for a tidy insurance payment. The book follows a similar fictitious story with Alison Poole's jumper "Dangerous Dan" being poisoned by her father.
McInerney's equestrian terminology is off-the-mark in certain areas, which would bother a reader if he/she was involved in the hunter/jumper circuit. I was a bit irritated with the dialogue, not just as an equestrian, but the fact he didn't do his homework.
The paragraphs must be at least 2.5 X 2.5. Truly a disappointment as far as text length.
Finally, if you don't mind inner monologue and conversations that would drive an English composition instructor to develop a personality disorder, then this is a book for you. For example, "So I'm all like, yeah, so like, uh-huh..." I think I lost several dendrites, axons, and neurons reading the novel...
This book is a poor novice attempt at a novel. I'm sure his writing improved with time (i.e."Bright Lights, Big City").
