Redwall Box Set

This set definitely met my satisfaction. All the books came in a neat box about 1 cubic foot in paperback edition, each shrink wrapped as if they were new. It was obvious that some have had shelf life, but absolutely none of them have been read before. Also, shipped in 2 days so extremely fast. I am very satisfied and recommend this to any Redwall fans as a great deal.

Simply breathtaking.....

Excellent pros and literature. I love the personal style. Everyday people exposing their love and heartache. I cannot stop reading. While the topic is limited to love/passion, the stories are so diverse and rich. Inspires me to write my own story. Excellent book. If you enjoy this you will love Sun Magazine as well.

The Preacher's

The Preacher's Wife, by Cheryl St.John, is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I finished it in one evening, then had to go back and reread some parts the next morning. I thought the cover picture was also appropriate and appealing.

I liked that it wasn't suspenseful, but was just a sweet heart-warming story that brought tears to my eyes several times.

Cheryl St.John is such an excellent writer and made her characters come to life. They depicted such realistic behaviors and conversations. I hated for the book to end and will look forward to her sequel: Elizabeth's Story. I hope we'll see more of these characters in the new story.

I also have learned not to read the back cover, as it gives away who will end up with whom, though you usually know on the first page anyway. I liked that there were two potential 'preacher' suitors for Josie and by not reading the back cover, I wasn't sure which it would be for awhile.

This was such an endearing book to end the day with and bring sweet dreams. Thank you Cheryl St.John for such a good read!

A pleasant story but lacks something

I bought this book not knowing anything about it other than the fact that it is written by one of the best writers of western romances--Cheryl St. John. I've slowly accumulated a collection of her books and will read anything she writes. Why? Because she has the ability to create vulnerable characters that really provoke a strong emotional reaction.

Though "The Preacher's Wife" has vulnerable characters in Samuel the widower struggling to raise 3 daughters and Josie the lonely widow, the story just didn't move me. I can't precisely put my finger on it but I missed some depth with how Samuel and Josie dealt with each other. Their roles are not defined. Does Josie think she is just going to be a stepmother to the girls? Does she know if she will also share a marriage bed with Sam? Would she be okay with both possibilities? Sam offers for her after a relatively short period of mourning, out of necessity. Does he make certain Josie knows what he wants of her? Shouldn't he clarify during his brief proposal? Does he find a way to let her know that it's too soon for them to have a physical relationship but not an impossibility in the future? Later on we find out they are sharing a marriage bed but there was nothing leading up to that, which must have been a difficult decision for Sam and the perfect opportunity to show that vulnerability.

I see that the book is published under Steeple Hill, a division of Harlequin that is more religious themed. Perhaps their writing guidelines effect what an author can write about. This story is pretty tame in the romance department.

Still, overall the book is good. Cheryl St. John is an excellent writer. I hope she continues to write books with characters that pull at our heartstrings.

This is a great book!

Cheryl St John has written a great book for her first Love Inspired novel. After writing many Harlequin Historicals which have a higher level of sensuality, the author still conveyed the emotions and conflict necessary to an entertaining book. She picked her characters and their traits well and I really enjoyed reading this book.

Badgered by her late husband's mother, Josie Randolph makes the weekly trek to his graveyard although she longs to put the past behind and start a new life. Josie is a nurturer. With inherited wealth, she doesn't need a job to maintain her lifestyle so she volunteers at the parsonage, keeping house and taking care of the injured pastor. A widower, the lonely pastor proposes to Josie. A marriage based on friendship seems to be what they both need. Yet, Josie hesitates.

Enroute his new post, Samuel Hart has just faced an unbearable hardship. He lost his wife and his daughters lost their mother. Sadness and guilt hangs over the quartet like a soggy blanket. Sam has no idea how he'll cope with the girls and his work, but he's a preacher and has faith it'll work out. He sees the lonely widow working at the parsonage where he stops for awhile as interim pastor. After watching her offer empathy and wisdom to his daughters, Samuel feels led to offer marriage. She'll be a suitable caregiver as well as a preacher's wife but that's as far as his intentions go.

Suddenly faced with 2 proposals, Josie picks Samuel. She already feels an affinity for his daughters and she's half way in love with him. When it's time for Samuel to leave the parsonage behind, Josie, as his new wife, goes with him. But being a wife and feeling like a wife are two different things when the husband's heart isn't involved.

About the Author
MARC WEISSBLUTH, M.D., a pediatrician with thirty-five years of experience, founded the original Sleep Disorders Center at Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital and is a professor of clinical pediatrics at Northwestern University School of Medicine. Healthy Sleep Habits made my kids Happy

The follow-up Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Twins is a good resource to a parent of twins, offering practical advice for handling your multiples with a nice balance of confidence and humility.

I had a singleton first, and we used the Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child book to sleep train her. (Sleep train is a harsh description as it invokes images of a screaming baby and stressed parents but this is NOT how I'd describe this method) Because I had previous experience with the Weissbluth method we had an advantage in sleep training our twins. I found while the twins' book offered some practical detail about twinfants, and dealing with common concerns related to prematurity, it lacked the detail of its predecessor, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child.

The Weissbluth method focuses almost entirely on the premise that rested babies sleep better. You need to toss out the age old notion that if you keep your baby up, they will sleep longer and better at night. This simply is an old wives tale not unlike putting cereal in your infant's bottle. Weissbluth focuses on preventing bad habits from starting and getting your baby down in their crib sleepy but awake and allowing them to drift off to sleep by themselves. I was skeptical at first, particularly because he says that babies can't comfortably stay awake for more than 90 minutes. BUT ITS TRUE, after 90 minutes all of my children reach a state of irritability, where they seem to want to nurse and be cuddled. With my first child I mistook this cue to mean that she was hungry. I was nursing her every 90 minutes when I should have been napping her.

All in all I HIGHLY recommend the Healthy Sleep Habits method, but I suggest the parent of multiples buy the original book, Happy Child, and skip Happy Twins. It just didn't have the detail and step by step instructions like Happy Child had and I still use my Happy Child book as quick reference when one of the kids hits a funny sleeping stage.

FAQ's about being a mom of multiples.
- Yes, my twins shared a crib until they started moving around. They tended to snuggle close together so I had to put a barrier between them in the crib to reduce the risk of SIDS and them accidentally smothering each other.
- I put them in separate cribs in the same room at 5 months.
- They really do ignore each other. One does not wake the other when they cry in the middle of the night
- When one wakes for a night feeding we always woke up the other one and fed them too to keep them on the same schedule.
- We keep their room at about 65 degrees
- We give them a bath every night before bed but instead of trying to wrangle the baby tub we bought the 2 of the spongy things and put them in the regular bath tub. It is faster and they like the water.

Good content... but longer than it needs to be.

There is definitely some good information in this book. But it's really drawn out. The first thirty pages or so describe the importance of sleep and healthy sleep habits. If you're reading this book (and especially if you have newborn twins in the house), I suspect you already know how important sleep is. Chapter 3 is probably the best resource. It lists sleepy signs from your baby and how to make sure you get him or her to bed before he or she is overtired. And it makes suggestions about the amount of sleep a baby needs and good times for naps. If, however, you don't think you can bear to let your baby cry, this book may not be for you.

There is also a chapter on breastfeeding twins and one on prematurity. Again, this is good information, but if you are reading this book just for help with sleeping habits it feels like filler. And the chapter on creating a sleep team can be summarized like this: make sure you, your spouse and anyone else who cares for your twins are on the same page with sleep-training so you don't screw up each others' efforts. He takes about 20 pages to say that.

This book gives good protocols to follow but does not address issues with temperament. I still ended up separating my twins, as the book didn't guide me in how to handle them waking each other night after night. Nor did it address what to do when one twin is making themselves vomit or completely losing it when you leave the room. Just wish it covered more variables of what to expect from high needs/strong willed babies.

Zola' writing style is addictive, because he describes everything so well that the reader is transported and becomes a witness or participant of the novel.
