kept my interest, and did not guess the ending

Second book in Grafton's alphabet series. I liked this one better than A is for Alibi. The story was more complex and I did not guess the ending. This is a quick and simple read. The writing isn't great literature but it will hold your interest. I find her descriptions to be too much at times, and a bit tedious and unnecessary. There are some plot holes. I have read four of these novels now and there are plot holes in every one. But if you can overlook some logic issues, and the continually dumb things Kinsey (the detective) does (like never having her gun handy), then these books are enjoyable.

Interesting book

I just finished this book and really like the character, Kinsey Malhone. I ran across this book series completely by accident at the laundromat one Sunday morning. Somebody had brought a stack of old books and left them there for the customers to read. That book was C is for Criminal. Needless to say it made me curious about the others. I purchased B, A and D. I have A & D yet to read this summer. If they are as good as B & C then I will explore the rest. So far I like them very much.

Solid reading with good plot, and detailed investigative work that keeps you guessing all the time.

It was only the second in the series that I've read, but I like Grafton's style, and the realism that surrounds her stories. Some are so dramatically oriented that sometimes the realism is lost in the process. Her novels seem to tell a great story, and mix in people who are believable and relevant to the story line. I enjoy the time I've spent reading them.

Tom's decided that it's time to marry and he's left love out of the equation. His potential wife is beautiful, successful, and undemanding. Julia's perfect for him - or so he thinks.

Imogene is Tom's temporary personal assistant. She's efficient, confident and utterly in love with Tom. Imogene is a romantic and believes in love and happily ever after. She'd once been in love and had her heart broken but she knows what she wants in a relationship and isn't willing to settle for anything less.

Imogene may only be Tom's temporary PA but the news that he's getting married and expects her to help with a wedding that's only three weeks away is stunning - especially since she wasn't even aware he was seriously dating. What's even more shocking is his emotional detachment in the wedding plans and lack of concern about the honeymoon. He actually consults Imogene on her ideal honeymoon location and has her arrange it for him and his future wife. When Julia cries off at the last moment, Tom isn't heartbroken but he's a man unaccustomed to failure of any kind and this is a public humiliation he finds unacceptable.

Since the arrangements have already been made at the exclusive resort and getting a refund nearly impossible, Tom suggests Imogene accompany him. Imogene and Tom have vastly different views on life and love and they openly discuss their opinions and the reasons for them. Despite their differences there's an undeniable attraction that they decide to act on during their time together on the island. It was a great book...spoilers

I liked the hero and heroine. They had great chemistry and they actually got to know each other before sleeping together. They did not physically hook up until like 74% into the book. I like how he took the chance first to put his feelings out there and she was right behind him. The only thing that bugs me, and this is about pretty much all romance books, is when they had an arrangement with one person and it causes rejection and they are then afraid of another rejection so they shut down. I mean, take a chance. You were not in love with the first person and they rejected you. You are in love with this person, is it better to stay scared of a rejection that will possibly not happen or to be without that person forever? Either way you are alone but at least you can try!!!

I can't recall ever reading a Catherine George Presents but she'll be an auto buy for me from now on as I so enjoyed The Italian Count's Defiant Bride. It's about second chances and will absolutely tug at your heart strings.

As a young teenager just fresh out of school with absolutely no experience, Alicia travels to Florence with her bestfriend Megan and literally bumps into Count Francesco da Luca a retired rugby player. Alicia is overwhelmed because she's been a fan of his for years. Francesco shows her the city and they quickly fall in love and marry. However, their wedding night is a disaster and she leaves and returns home and refuses his calls.

Now years later, Francesco returns to Wales and is determined to see Alicia and bring her back to Italy under pretenses that his mother has left her something and the rest of the heirs cannot get their inheritance until she signs the papers. On top of everything else, Alicia has a problem with a man she adores like a brother and he's made advances so Francesco and Alicia decide to tell everyone they have reconciled.

It's such a lovely and romantic love story, one you will definitely not want to miss.

Decent enough HP read

The Italian Count's Defiant Bride by Catherine George was a decent enough HP read. In the past, I've always enjoyed Catherine George's HP books, but this one doesn't quite live up to her others. It felt like it dragged on too much. Francesco de Luca fell in love with Alicia Cross when he first set eyes on her. They end up getting married, but on their weeding night, things fall apart, and they never consummated their marriage. A little unbelievable here. Several years go by without either one of them seeking a divorce (Francesco was turned away by her mother), and now Alicia runs across Francesco at a rugby match. It informs her that she must come to his hometown because his late mother left her something in her will. Alicia agrees to go, and also agrees to play the part of his wife again because a close family friend of hers is trying to put the moves on her. Francesco is very laid-back, and takes his time trying to win over his wife again. Come on already!!! Let's get to the good part! There is a lot of dialogue between hero and heroine at the start, but when the romance heats up between them, the story takes a turn for the better! 4 stars!

Romantic but a bit pathetic and unrealistic

It was pathetic the reason Alicia ran away from her husband on their wedding night. They threw away their love and marriage because of a stupid miscommunication and misunderstanding that it is unbelievable and unrealistic. With the title, power and money I can't believe the hero can't find the heroine all those years.

The way they fell in love and the way the hero courting the heroine again and the heroine falling in love again was romantic. That I have to give credit.
